Public Comments Still Under MOJ’s Review
This week, some news media including “Independent” and “Business Insider” reported that Japan’s new immigration rules that would make it easier to be eligible for permanent residency in Japan will come into effect as of the end of this March. The details of the new rules as reported in those articles are basically the same as what I described in my previous article.
Nevertheless, as far as I could have confirmed, the finalized rules after review of the public comments, acceptance of which ended on February 16, have not been promulgated yet. It means that Japan’s Ministry of Justice (“MOJ”) is still reviewing the public comments and may possibly make (minor) amendments to its original plan based on such comments.
Judging from the usual timeline for Japan’s public comments process, it would take at least 2 more weeks for MOJ to complete the review and promulgate the finalized rules.
I will post an update as soon as the finalized rules are announced, so please check back if you are interested in this topic.
