About the Author

The author, Daiki Akahane, is a corporate lawyer who focuses on assisting international clients with starting and operating businesses in or with Japan.

Having advised international clients at Tokyo branches of two U.S.-based global law firms, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe and Paul Hastings, Daiki has been extensively exposed to cross-border legal matters, areas of which encompass a wide range of practice areas including general corporate, mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliance, foreign investment, employment law, regulatory compliance and dispute resolution.

In particular, due to his prior career at U.S. West Coast law firms whose leading offices are located geographically closer to startups and ex-startups (including tech giants such as Facebook and Apple), Daiki is highly experienced in matters involving startups, the scope of which includes representation of both investors (e.g., venture capitals) and entrepreneurs (startups soliciting investments).

He currently practices law as a principal of Law Office of Daiki Akahane.
